Last Summer Hurrah!

If you’re anything like us, you turned around and were truly surprised that it was already September. Where did the summer go? Just yesterday it was March, right? Fortunately, fall in Alberta is a lovely time, often with some of the best weather all season. You still have time to build a few late summer memories before the season’s change and the snow begins to fly. And as it turns out there are a slate of amazing local events and activities scheduled in and around the city that allow for physical distancing while still giving you much needed social connection. Here is just a sample of the activities that will get you up, active and enjoying the great outdoors!

PARK is partnering with Deerfoot City to launch Block Party, an art installation and patio space created by four local artists including a 200ft roadway mural, outdoor lawn games and interactive art seating. Provides a vibrant, accessible, and safe community space where Calgarians can engage with outdoor public art and one another while socially distancing. The installation is lined by over 200 feet of pathway shops, services, and food vendors and will be accompanied by art adorned picnic tables, umbrellas and benches that meet Alberta Health Guidelines for spacing and cleaning protocols.

Join Telus Spark for a touch of nostalgia with a classic summertime experience under the stars. Pile into your car and order snacks from the on-site concession before settling in to watch films like Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Princess Bride, Ghostbusters and more.

Until September 20th, participants will come together to show support for people living with HIV in a way they never have before. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, HIV Community Link has re-envisioned our traditional Calgary AIDS Walk & Run into an engaging virtual version.

Join the Boo Crew at Calaway Park this Fall! Take a stroll through Hallotown… if you dare! It is a spooktacular good time for the whole family!

The ultimate small group activity to take you beyond the four walls of your local watering hole. Sign up for a Calgary scavenger hunt and put on your best Nick Cage impression as you seek out the national treasures hidden in Calgary. Let’s Roam offers adventures that will guide you through the cultural, historical, artistic, and zany Calgary sights as you and your team contend for scavenger hunt glory.

So, don’t let our Calgary summer pass you by without giving it an amazing send-off! Now is the perfect time to appreciate the beautiful city that we call home and soak in the late summer sunshine. Discover patios and promenades or take the time to poke through historic neighbourhoods, buy local and attend unique grassroots events.
