Cool things to do in the heat of the summer

August is upon us and there’s a vibe of relaxation and adventure in the air. With the Calgary Stampede behind us, this month is all about family, fun and soaking in the sunshine before we feel the chill that will inevitably follow.

What are your plans for the rest of the summer? We have compiled a list of attractions, activities and cool finds in and around Calgary that might be a little different than the usual trip to the mountains. Sunnyside Summer Nights: Every second Thursday, have a date night or a bubble cohort outing of up to six people at containR Art Park where you can indulge in music, entertainment and live performances throughout the summer. Ticket prices vary. More information at

Rhythms of 17th: From July 14-August 24th, Western Canada High School along with Alberta Ballet, Calgary Opera, and Arts Commons present an amazing music and dance festival. This is the first event of its kind and promises to be a beautiful experience! Best of all – it’s FREE! More information is available here:

Calgary Farmer’s Market, Greenwich Pop Up: Get a sneak peek at the new CFM location in the Northwest community of Greenwich. Next to their new building on August 7th and September 11th, they are hosting their current and new vendors in a street fair-style event. Also featuring local music, food trucks and community groups showcasing the neighbourhood businesses. More information here:

Downhill Karting by Skyline Luge Calgary at Winsport: Enjoy fun, fast-paced family action for all ages and abilities at Winsport this summer. Strap into your own gravity Luge cart and cover 1800 metres of downhill twists and turns while your adrenaline goes wild. More information here:

Beyond Van Gogh – An Immersive Experience: A unique experience like no other, this imaginative and immersive experience promises to show you the life, dreams, thoughts and words of Van Gogh using amazing technology, colour and light. Showing until August 29th at BMO Centre. More information here:

These are just a few of our favourite things to take in this summer – of course there are tons of events, great hikes, food festivals and other attractions in and around our great city!
